QUESTION: Who are some other heroines of the Christian faith whose biographies you would recommend? And relative to that, what authors, titles, etc.?
ANSWER: I recommend any books by Faith Cook
. She has written a biography of Selina, Countess of Huntingdon
(Banner of Truth). She has also written a great biography of Lady Jane Gray
(Evangelical Press). My thirteen-year-old daughter has enjoyed her wonderful historical novel based around the life of
called Caught in the Web
(Evangelical Press). My book In Trouble and in Joy
gives biographies of Margaret Baxter (wife of the great Puritan minister Richard Baxter), Sarah Edwards, Anne Steele and Frances Ridley Havergal (Evangelical Press).
QUESTION: Is another biography currently underway? (And if so, PLEEEASE tell us when we can expect the next wonderful book!)
ANSWER: I’m hoping to produce a companion volume to God's Design for Women including biographies of women who ‘lived out’ God’s design. Also I’m hoping to produce a sequel to my devotional Gentle Rain on Tender Grass
with devotions from parts of the New Testament. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
Thank you all for these questions! I’m so encouraged that you have found Elizabeth Prentiss’s life to be helpful. May God bless you all as you serve him!
Warmest best wishes,
Sharon James
We also asked Sharon for a photo of herself to include with the interview and were delighted when she sent us this one of her and her daughter, along with the following note:
When asked for a photo, I chose this one of my daughter Lydia and myself, despite us looking windswept and cold! It was taken in China earlier this year. Our trip really opened our eyes to the huge challenges there. Please pray that as the Gospel advances, there would be a genuine amelioration of the situation for females, who are still often treated as 'second class'. Many of the girls and young women we spent time with had suffered heart-breaking abuse. At present it is illegal to evangelise the 500 million plus children and youngsters under eighteen years of age. Please pray urgently for those who are reaching them, despite official restrictions. And please pray for greater freedom to teach the Word to the upcoming generation. Sharon
